Recycle those computers!

Did you know that monitors and televisions that contain a picture tube (CRT) have leaded glass, and are the largest source of lead in municipal waste?  A CRT monitor can contain between 4 and 8 pounds of lead.  Computers also can contain cadmium and mercury.  These materials (lead, cadmium and mercury)  can be very hazardous to our health and the environment.
Maine is the first state is first to require the makers of televisions and computer monitors to pay for recovery of trashed equipment. Read more here.

Fortunately there are local recycling centers in Elkhart county that make recycling these components easy.
Computers for All is a local non-profit organization that recycles computer parts.  They use the working components that they can to build used computers for economically disadvantaged families, seniors, disabled and other non-profit organizations.  They take both working and non-working computer parts.
